The wood engravings on this page were all printed in 1812 to 1815 for the periodical, The Naval Monument.  They are not fine art engravings but were intended to give the interested public illustrations of which vessels entered into combat and approximately what their positions were. The impressions are all about 3 1/2" X 6 1/2" on paper that is 5"X8".  There is nothing printed on the backs. They were quickly printed on a hand press and some of the impressions are not centered very well.  Some of them were pressed so hard that the block actually embossed the paper somewhat. Click here (800kb) to see a high resolution copy of one of the prints.
