The primary purpose of TheAgeOfSail.com is to collect, digitally; archive and offer for sale antique nautical prints from the 16th through the 19th centuries. These miniature works of art offer a first hand account of the nautical world as it was during the age of sail. Some of them are vignettes of typical scenes while others represent specific ships or events. You will find representations of everything from the largest ships to the smallest boats. I use my experience as a former square-rigger sailor to choose accurate representations and to comment on any interesting features.

Please visit the Photo Gallery, where you will find a variety of interesting pictures of traditional vessels.

Since there are many poorly understood nautical terms from the age of sail, I am including an illustrated reference section.

Although not from the age of sail, ocean liners are large, extinct floating objects, of which I happen to have lots of pictures.
